Active Worlds Content Guidelines

Activeworlds Inc. has carefully developed the following content guidelines to promote the free-flowing exchange of ideas regarding your interests, activities and hobbies, while maintaining standards consistent with the Internet community and the societies of the world. Activeworlds Inc. does not discriminate based on sex, age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, religion or socio-economic status.

Please refrain from using Active Worlds for the following activities:

1. Displaying material containing nudity, pornography, or sexual material of a lewd, lecherous or obscene nature and intent or that violate local, state and national laws.

2. Providing material that is grossly offensive to the online community, including blatant expressions of bigotry, prejudice, racism, hatred or excessive profanity.

3. Promoting or providing instructional information about illegal activities. Promoting physical harm or injury against any group or individual, or promoting any act of cruelty to animals. This includes, but is not limited to, the following activities: Providing instructions on how to assemble bombs, grenades and other weapons.

4. Covering excessive amounts of land in any of the Activeworlds public building worlds, including AlphaWorld, Mars, Atlantis, Yellow, or COFMeta, by any means including bots, keyboard macros, or even manual building. Please limit land claiming to land which you can directly use to build on yourself. "Excessive" land claiming is defined as any area greater than 1 square kilometer, or 100 cells by 100 cells.

We reserve the right to suspend or remove any world, objects or properties from the Active Worlds universe which is brought to our attention and which we find, in our sole discretion, violates any of these content guidelines or otherwise is in violation of the law.

Activeworlds Inc. does not actively monitor the content of the worlds in Active Worlds, but we will investigate complaints of violation of these guidelines.

Users who are in violation of the Activeworlds Inc. Content Guidelines may have their membership revoked, services cancelled and their worlds or properties, or portions of their properties, removed without warning; in which event Activeworlds Inc. will not return the removed properties or Worlds to the offending member.

Activeworlds Inc. is not responsible or liable for any loss of data resulting from our deletion of worlds or properties, network or system outages, file corruption or any other reasons.

The opinions and views expressed in the Active Worlds Universe do not reflect those of Activeworlds Inc. The contents of the worlds are not reviewed in any way before they appear in the Active Worlds Universe.

Activeworlds Inc. is not responsible for the content in any of the worlds. Users are solely responsible for their properties, and everything contained in their own worlds. Activeworlds Inc. does not verify, endorse or otherwise vouch for the contents of any world. Users may be held legally liable for the contents of their worlds.

Activeworlds Inc. is not responsible for the delivery of any goods or services sold or advertised through its sponsors in the worlds.

Activeworlds Inc. also reserves the following rights:

To amend or change the Activeworlds Inc. Content Guidelines or End User License Agreement at any time and without notice. To release current or past member information if Activeworlds Inc. believes that a member's account is in violation of the Activeworlds Inc. Content Guidelines or End User License Agreement, is being used to commit unlawful acts, if the information is subpoenaed and/or if Activeworlds Inc. deems it necessary and/or appropriate. To deny membership to serious or repeat offenders of the Activeworlds Inc. Content Guidelines or End User License Agreement. To remove members for conduct that Activeworlds Inc. believes is harmful to other members, to non-members or to Activeworlds Inc. as a business.

Activeworlds Inc. makes no guarantee of availability of service and reserves the right to change, withdraw, suspend, or discontinue any functionality or feature of Active Worlds.

In no event will Activeworlds Inc. be liable for any damages, including, without limitation, direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of the use of or inability to use Active Worlds or any content therein. This disclaimer applies, without limitation, to any damages or injury, whether for breach of contract, tort, or otherwise, caused by any failure of performance; error; omission; interruption; deletion; defect; delay in operation or transmission; computer virus; file corruption; communication-line failure; network or system outage; or theft, destruction, unauthorized access to, alteration of, or use of any record.
