Trivia Bot

Activeworlds Corp. holds a Trivia contest every Tuesday evening at 11:00 PM VRT in the AWTrivia world. You may come and play - and win prizes!

Would you like to stump your friends with a set of trivia questions that you create? Here's how - and you can earn citizenship months or bots by doing so:

  • Select a topic or group of topics that you'd like to use
  • Make a list of questions (30 questions is good for one "game") - Questions should have relatively short answers, and generally NOT true/false
  • Determine the answer that TriviaBot should say for the "correct answer"
  • Determine possible other answers that you will accept - for example, if the answer is "Elvis Presley", you may also want to accept "Elvis" or "Presley" or "Parsley" - then if someone mistypes, you can still count "Alvys Parsley" as a correct answer
  • Build a test file (using NotePad or WordPad or any other text editor) with your topics, answers, and questions
  • Email the final result to HamFon and be sure to mention AWTrivia in your mail Subject line
  • Your question set becomes the property of Activeworlds Corp. and by submitting it, you give your consent that the question file may be used at Activeworlds' descretion
  • Since we have collected quite a few question collections, we are currently accepting question files on a donation basis only.
  • Note - You may be allowed to host AWTrivia as your file is used - with BOLD - if both Activeworlds staff and you agree that you should ;)
  • PLEASE make the questions file so that it doesn't have to be edited by Activeworlds staff - otherwise we will send it back for correction

What is the format of a TriviaBot questions file?

  • Each line contains one question and it's answer(s) and topic
  • Start the line with a '/'
  • Next comes the category - you may make one up, or use one of the standard Trivial Pursuit categories: History, Science&Nature, Entertainment, Geography, Art&Literature, Sports&Leisure
  • Another '/'
  • Next, the correct answer as you would like to have TriviaBot read it - this is usually a "complete" answer - such as Elvis Presley
  • Another '/'
  • Next, you may list one or more alternate answers that you'll accept - answers are not case sensitive - answers less than 5 characters long must be EXACT
  • Follow each alternate answer (up to 9 additional answers) with a '/'
  • All done with answers? Another '/' (so you'll have two in a row now)
  • Next comes your question as you'd like it to be read by TriviaBot
  • You're done with this question - now do the next 29 questions for a total of 30 :-)

Here is a sample TriviaBot questions file:

/History/Corduroy//What fabric derives it's name from the French for "cord of the king"?
/Sports&Leisure/Indianapolis Motor Speedway/Indianapolis/Indy//Where is Gasoline Alley?
/People&Places/Mark Twain/Twain/Clemens//What 19th century humorist said: "The report of my death was an exaggeration"?
/History/Turkey//What bird did Benjamin Franklin advocate as the U. S. national symbol?
/Music/Elvis Presley/Elvis/Presley/Parsley//Who Rocked in a Jailhouse?

Good luck playing AWTrivia! We hope to hear from you soon with your very own question set!
