Models For AlphaWorld Builders |
Alpha World Building Objects are free for use in worlds owned by Active Worlds citizens, and are the objects used to build in Alpha World, the largest building world in Cyberspace. If you are an Active Worlds citizen and world owner, feel free to download the Alpha World Building Objects for use in your own world.
If you're already using the Alpha World Building Objects, and would like to find objects to fit in well with your build, use the following links to view listings of various categories of objects.
To reduce load time, each model type was placed into a separate HMTL page. Because a large number of objects have been added to the Alpha World Building Objects collection, most of these pages have increased substantially in size, in spite of the addition of several new categories to further divide the list of objects. The links in the first group are all light downloads. The second group contains links to larger web pages and may take a long time to download on slow connections. I hope that you will find these pages helpful enough to be worth checking out even the largest of them. Click on the links below to see the individual pages, and then hit your browser's back button to return to the Overview.
Since many different model designers have donated objects to the Alpha World Building Objects collection, there is quite a variety of naming schemes. This may take some getting used to, so some objects are listed under more than one category in which they fit. In particular, all of the objects found in the following pages can also be found in one or more of the previous pages. These alternative listings are here to help you find what you're looking for.

There are some basic textures used in many building models in AlphaWorld. At one time, some of these textures were are used in the newer objects "across the board." That is, made available in each panel type, wall type, floor and walk type, etc., within a given set or naming scheme.
There are still some inconsistencies, but we are working on resolving these to make it easier for new builders. Please be understanding if changes are made to models or model-naming schemes between versions.

Note:"16" is currently used for the non-textured "glass" materials and "17" is currently used for "bump panels," these might someday be changed.
Other numbers may also change in the future, as conflicts in various model-naming schemes are resolved. Whenever a model-naming scheme changes, this file will be updated as necessary and efforts will be made to preserve the look of existing builds.
Various naming schemes are presently in use. Although objects allowed into the Alpha World Building Objects collection are carefully selected for rendering efficiency and clean consistent design, different object designers may have different ideas of what names would be best for any particular object. For this reason, and others, you will not always be able to rely on finding patterns in the names of objects. We do, however, encourage you to look for such patterns as those that you do find may come in very handy to know when choosing objects for your builds.
About "Z" Objects
Z objects are restricted to use by Worlds employees for various reasons. If you click on an object in AlphaWorld and you see that its name starts with the letter "z" then that object is not available for general building.
Older Objects Supported Only For Compatibility
Before the new scheme of semi-uniform numbering, several object naming and size schemes were tried and abandoned. All three-meter objects and several of the panels that don't fall into any current scheme are in this category, as well as some walls. These are maintained to preserve building time invested by our citizens in the past. However, these objects may (and have in the past) changed in appearance.
Some of the older objects have problems that we don't want to "fix" since doing so would break things which have already been built with them.
About Object Measurements
The dimensions given for each object are not meant to be used as measurements. If you decide to trust them, that's your choice.
The main purpose of including object dimensions in the help files is to help you find the objects you need, to keep building creatively. The "Tiling" shown for objects is actually a range of UV values within the object, and will not always give you an accurate representation of exactly what to expect. Your best bet is to get to know the objects. Measure them yourself, by counting how far you have to move a duplicate of an object before it's no longer touching the original.
Object movements are measured in clicks while building. Every 2 click equals 1 meter. Building cells are 1 square dekameter each. A dekameter is equal to 10 meters, and a square dekameter is equal to 100 square meters.
Finding Alpha World Building Objects.
Categorizing objects is rarely a simple process, for many reasons. For example, one person may design an object to use as a park bench and another person may decide they like using the object as a building block for creating fancy stairways while yet another person may choose to sink the object into the ground leaving just enough sticking out to make a nice garden fence.
There are many "object yards" in Alpha World.
Alpha World is in the main Active Worlds universe, and is listed as AW in the Worlds list.
There is a list of some popular object yards in Alpha World at the following coordinates:

About the updated Alpha World Building Objects help pages:
These help pages are one place to look for objects, but they are not the only place. Talk to people whose builds you admire. Look around and gather information for yourself. Use the help file pages as a convenient tool. If you see an object in a category that you think it totally doesn't belong in, use your imagination.
