Voice Chat

Overview

New in Activeworlds version 4.1 is the ability for users to voice chat, or Voice-Over-IP (VOIP). Voice chat is handled by the world server (not the universe) so you may only chat with people in the same world, and only if the world has voice chat enabled.

In worlds with VOIP enabled, you may begin speaking by hitting the "talk" key (F12 by default).

Interface

Participants Window

The window on the left lists everyone who is currently part of the voice chat. You may request a private conversation with another user, or mute another user.

In "Lecture Mode" (see below) you may use this window to request permission to speak from the moderator. If you are the moderatior, this window will show who has requested permission to speak.

Conference / Lecture

In conference mode, everyone can speak normally.

If you have moderator rights, you may switch the world to "lecture" mode, where you may adress everyone exclusivly. In lecture mode, non-moderators must request permission from the moderator to speak. This is useful is a classroom setting or when one person needs to speak to the entire group.

Clear All Responses

In Lecture Mode, moderators may use this button to clear all requests to speak from other users.

Reset Requests

In Lecture Mode, this will clear speaking rights for other users so that you are the sole speaker.

Hands Free

The hands free option will cause you to broadcast whenever you speak, without needing to hit the talk key.

Mute other sounds

This will mute sound effects in Activeworlds so you can focus on the voice chat.
