Filing a Bug Report

When to file a report
Before filing a bug report, please read the current bug list to see if what you are addressing has already been acknowledged as a known bug and if so what it's current status is listed as and whether or not it's description is consistent with your experiences.

When you feel that filing a report will help the development team to refine and improve the version of Active Worlds they are currently working on, that is the best time to file a report. If you are a beta team member and have access to the Where to file a report

How to file a report

In order to fix the bug, the development team must be able to see and reproduce the problem using the information you provide in your report. Without enough information to reproduce a problem, it is often impossible to determine its cause, making it all the more difficult to fix. For this reason, a bug report should contain all the information necessary for someone else to view and reproduce your observations. Please be sure to include the world name and coordinates where you made your observation and steps to reproduce it.

Before reporting any bug involving the 3D rendering of objects and/or worlds, please be sure to review the video problems page for some useful suggestions. Also, please be sure to note under which graphics mode you made your observations. If you are having a rendering problem, try reproducing it using other video modes. Include specific information about your computer system including speed, processor, graphics card, and anything else which may effect the ability of the development team to reproduce your observations. If you are having trouble locating some important piece of information about your system, ask another beta tester for help.

Why file a beta report

An opportunity to file a bug report or to make a well thought out suggestion or helpful observation is an opportunity to do something positive for the future. If you're new to beta testing, it's also an opportunity to gain experience and eventually establish yourself as an experienced beta tester. Beta testing is about what you can give, not what you can get. Careful testing and observation are important to beta testing, and filing a well thought out report will allow the development team the opportunity to make use of that testing and observation.
