OpenGL Support

Active Worlds 3.2 includes support for 3D rendering using OpenGL. OpenGL support is particularly useful for users running NT 4.0, since Microsoft has not made newer versions of DirectX available for NT 4.0, which has prevented NT 4.0 users from using the Direct3D support in previous versions of Active Worlds.

You can change the browser to run in OpenGL mode from the Video Settings dialog. Whether OpenGL mode is the best mode for you depends on the hardware and operating system configuration of your system. While OpenGL mode does not require DirectX, it does require that the drivers for your video card support OpenGL. Check with your video card manufacturer to determine whether or not your video card supports OpenGL. Or, simply try running in OpenGL mode and see if it works. Always be sure to update the drivers for your video card before trying a new rendering mode.

The web site www.glsetup.com provides an excellent free utility for updating your OpenGL drivers.
