Installing the Active Worlds Server (Unix version)

Important: if you are upgrading your UniServer from a pre-3.4 version, please consult the version 3.4 upgrade instructions before proceding.

The Unix version of the Active Worlds UniServer is available for SunSparc computers running Solaris and x86 computers running Linux Red Hat 6.0 or later. Note that other versions of Linux may work but are not officially supported at this time.

These installation instructions require that you have already purchased and received a UniServer from Activeworlds Inc.

Once you have received the Active Worlds UniServer from Activeworlds, transfer the file to your Unix host. The UniServer for Unix comes as a gzipped .tar archive.

Create a new directory to store the server files, and place the server file there. For this example, assume the name of the file is "awulnx35.tar.gz":

mkdir ~/uniserver mv awulnx35.tar.gz ~/uniserver cd ~/uniserver

Unpack the file:

gunzip awulnx35.tar.gz tar xvf awulnx35.tar

The tar file unpacks into the following files:

atdump atload citdump citload ejdump ejload emaildump emailload gramdump gramload licdump licload universed universe.ini

Installing the license code

After unpacking the installation, you will need to place your UniServer license code file in the installation directory. The license file must be present in the directory in order for the UniServer to start. Your license file is provided to you by Activeworlds Inc. at the time you purchased your UniServer or Galaxerver.
