If you install the UniServer under Windows NT or 2000 while logged in as Administrator, the installer will automatically install the UniServer as a service. The service will restart automatically whenever you reboot the system, and you do not need to be logged in to the PC in order for the UniServer run. As with any other service, the UniServer service can be stopped and started from the Windows service control panel.
Installing the UniServer as a service requires a system reboot after the install completes, so be sure to install the server at a time when it is convenient to reboot your system.
Installing the UniServer as a regular Windows application is not recommended, but still supported. To do so, run the installer from an account other than Administrator. The installer will create a new Windows program group called "Active Worlds Universe Server". To start the server, go to this group and select "universed". Note that as a regular application, the UniServer will shut down when you log out of the system, and will not restart automatically if the system is rebooted.
