Description
The URL argument specifies the location of a resource to be used. It can be either relative or absolute. Relative URL's are treated as relative to that world's object path.
A specified URL can either be the name of a resource which is local to that world, such as a zipped sound file located in the "sounds" folder of the world's object path or an image in JPEG file format in the "textures" folder of the world's object path, or the absolute URL to a file on the World Wide Web in a format supported by the issuing command. An absolute URL might be used to point to a web page for the URL command to open, or it may represent a resource to be integrated into the 3D environment such as a .wav, .mid, or .mp3 file for the sound command or noise command, or a .jpg file for the picture command.
When using the URL command, you can also specify other forms of URLs such as ones using ftp:// to allow people to download files, or mailto: URLs to send email.
Note: When linking to an absolute URL as an external resource, maximum file size limits may apply.
Examples
bump noise open.wav
create sound atmos1.mid
activate url http://www.activeworlds.com
create picture www.activeworlds.com/images/awb.jpg
activate noise slam.mp3 overlap
create sound http://www.myisp.com/myaccount/mysong.mp3
activate url www.activeworlds.com target=aw_3d
Important Note about Resource Files!
The purpose of the URL argument is to allow you to customize your 3D build with your own personal artwork and sounds. It is not appropriate to integrate resource files on other people's web sites into your builds without their permission. Doing so could cause their web servers to experience extra load and possibly cost them money unfairly. If in doubt, you should only link to resources on your own website or on the world's object path. Also, remember that many sounds and images on the web are protected by copyrights laws. Using copyrighted resources without the owner's permission, whether on your web site or theirs, could potentially subject you to criminal prosecution!
Also, always keep in mind that content guidelines may be in effect in the world you are building in! If they are, linking to obscene, offensive or otherwise inappropriate images or sound clips may cause your property to be removed or your account to be deleted without warning!
