Other Changes in Active Worlds 3.3 |
|
Telegram Improvements The maximum length of telegrams in 3.3 has been increased to 1000 characters. The size of the telegram dialog has also been increased to accomodate larger telegrams. Also, the telegram dialog is now modeless, which means you can leave the telegram dialog open while interacting with other parts of the Active Worlds interface. The previous maximum length of telegrams was 250 characters. Pre-3.3 browsers can only receive telegrams up to 250 characters long. If a 3.3 user sends a long telegram to a pre-3.3 user, the uniserver will automatically break up the long telegram into multiple shorter telegrams, each 250 characters or fewer in length. Slide detection In 3.3, when you run into a wall or other obstacle, instead of just stopping the browser attempts to "slide" you along or around it so you can keep going. Note that slide detection is designed to work in most "common" cases (e.g. flat walls); collision with sufficiently complex objects can still cause you to stop. New rotate command options The rotate command has three new options that allow for the creation of wider variety of rotating objects. See the rotate command for details. New move command option The move command has a new "reset" option. See the move command for details. Tourist access control Universe adminstrators now have the ability to control tourist access at both the universe and the world level. Tourist access to the universe can be set from the universe attributes dialog. Tourist access for a world can be set from the universe worlds dialog. Enhanced world ejections The world ejection mechanism has been enhanced to provide more ways to keep troublemakers out of your world. In addition to IP address, users can also be blocked by citizen number or by computer ID. See world ejections for details. Hidden Worlds In the universe worlds dialog, universe administrators can now designate certain worlds to be "hidden" from the world list. A hidden world is still accessible to any user (if it is open to the public), it is simply not shown in the list. Web pages in the 3D window In certain cases it can be desirable to have 2D web content replace the 3D window instead of being displayed side-by-side in a separate web window. For example, a world might contain a kiosk that when clicked on, replaces the 3D window with a Flash tutorial. The url command has been extended in 3.3 to support this ability. Configurable world entry location In 3.3 it is now possible to set the default location where users first enter a world to something other than 0N 0W, using the new "Entry Point" option from the world features dialog. New avatar animation engine The old avatar animation engine (sometimes referred to as "Lifeforms") has been replaced with a new animation engine based on RenderWare's built-in animation features. While we have attempted to replicate the old functionality as best as possible with the new engine, you may notice some subtle differences in the timing and sequence of avatar animations between the old engine and the new one. |
