AW Tech Support Tip Of The Month

Grrr.... my chat won't scroll

Yes this problem appears when some types of MS software are upgraded, it not only affects AW but also other types of software like ICQ.

Please complete the following to resolve it.

  1. First print out this email so you can refer to it while in DOS mode
  2. Download this file, unzip it, and copy it to the root of your c: drive so it's at c:\riched32.dll
  3. Then go to the shut down menu and select "Restart in MS-DOS mode." Once the computer is in DOS mode you will most likely be at the C:\>Windows prompt.
  4. Type "cd system" without the quotes and hit enter.
  5. Type "copy riched32.dll xriched32.dll" without the quotes and hit enter.
  6. Type "cd\" without the quotes and hit enter. You should now be at the c:\> prompt.
  7. Type "copy riched32.dll c:\windows\system\riched32.dll" without the quotes and hit enter. You will be prompted to overwrite the file type "Y" without the quotes and hit enter.
  8. Type "exit" without the quotes and windows will restart.

If windows fails to start or you have problems with other programs and want to undo the change do the following.

  1. Go to the shut down menu and select "Restart in MS-DOS mode."
  2. Type "cd system" without the quotes and hit enter.
  3. Type "del riched32.dll" without the quotes and hit enter. If asked to confirm type "Y" without the quotes.
  4. Type "rename xriched32.dll riched32.dll" without the quotes and hit enter.
  5. Type "exit" without the quotes and hit enter or restart your computer.

If you still are having problems email support@activeworlds.com.
