Meet Our Citizens

doc is psyched about AW! See why in May's Meet Our Citizens.

DrEvil

Kiwi: Hi there doc :-) Can I ask where you're from?

doc: Yes I am from the USA in the state of Pennsylvania town of Bristol which is east right on the Delaware River near Philadelphia and New Jersey. Go Phillies!

Kiwi: What kind of work do you do in real life?

doc: Started out doing carpentry, but times got slow. Now I am running two cemeteries. I've been there for 20 yr. I do everything from selling the plots, having the interments, cutting grass, digging with backhoe and dealing with People. doc1 doing his job in real life: YouTube.

Kiwi: How did you find Active Worlds?

doc: Let's see now, back in 1996 I was on a chat program with someone - can't remember his name. He mentioned a program that he was using that lets you chat and move around in a 3d world with a little avatar. Also, he said he could make his own little place within the place. He told me he had an Indian teepee set up where you can talk to your friends in a 3d world (there weren't many objects at the time). He gave me the URL for the download. I installed it and can remember the first time I entered AW - there was nothing there not even a ground zero. After it loaded up a bit I started to see other people and little houses. I really thought I was on to something when I learned how to make my own place - was so cool. AW used to be free, but it was nothing like it is now. Active Worlds has come a long way and is well worth the price now.

Kiwi: How long have you been a citizen?

doc: Been on AW since 1996 took a 2 or 2 1/2 yr break came back on Feb 14, 2010, Valentine's Day. Once in a while I would come in as a tourist just to keep in touch with people.

Kiwi: Where are you usually found hanging out?

doc: I hang out 80% of my time in AWSchool, some in Winter, Yellow, and AW.

Kiwi: You teach at AWSchool don't you?

doc: Yes, I have been teaching in AWSchool from the beginning of the school. It's the best, always something going on there. It's really come a long way.

Kiwi: You enjoy teaching there?

doc: Yes, I do enjoy teaching. Nothing like knowing other people's problems when they start Active Worlds and being able to help. I really enjoy the thanks you get as they find out how to build and do different things. Most of times they are so happy. AWSchool is a team that does care. I can't even describe the good feeling I get working with them. Communication is so together now.

Kiwi: Are you working on anything special at the moment?

doc: In AWSchool we just finished building AW University. Now we are filling up the rooms and buildings with information as it comes along. There are a lot of new commands with the new AW build. Also it is a learning experience for me. It is taking up most of my time right now.

Kiwi: Can you tell us a little about what you're involved with in Active Worlds apart from AWSchool?

doc: In 2010 I was one of the presenters for the Cy Awards. Had fun there. Also, this Christmas there was even a competition. The whole time we had plenty of help getting information. At the end there was a parade and a dance party, really was enjoyable. Lots of pictures were taken and Christmas music was being played the whole time.

Kiwi: If you were put in charge of Active Worlds for a year, what would you change?

doc: I would keep it going as it is now. Moving forward, looking to the future, give more world rights for the people that prove themselves as a good citizen over the years. I would make more new people aware of AWSchool so they can get pointed in the right direction.

Kiwi: What impresses you most about AW?

doc: I always liked how you can interact with some one on the other side of the world while having fun in a virtual world.

Kiwi: What would you say needs to happen for AW to bring in more people?

doc: Give out some free time. The last AW promotion was a good idea - a cheap price and a world of your own. This way you can see how awesome AW is. I think this would encourage more people to join.

Kiwi: What is your favourite thing to do in AW?

doc: I like to be on a building frenzy with other people.

Kiwi: How happy are you with the CAV system?

doc: Seeing how I was away for 2 years or so, when I came back I was blown away. Nothing like being able to make how you look, for different events. Makes you feel like you are really doing something special and it is - such as the CY's - everyone dressed in their best.

Kiwi: What world has impressed you the most in AW?

doc: You know I am going to say AWSchool. For what you have to learn to build all that cool stuff in AW and other worlds. There is no other place to learn about all the commands. I find taking trips all over AW will help you get ideas. While building your idea you can always find what you need to know in AWSchool. Most of the time, people are in AWSchool to help you on what you want to know or give you a tip on things. There is so much to learn and try as a builder.

Kiwi: If I asked you to describe yourself to me in one word, what would it be?

doc: Psyched!

Kiwi: Is there anything else you would like the citizens of Active Worlds to know about you?

doc: I get great satisfaction when I find I am able to help someone, and appreciate the help I get from others. The friends I have made make this very enjoyable for me and I wish them all the best of luck.

Kiwi: Thanks so much doc for your time. Been great getting to know you better. Have an awesome day.

doc: You're welcome. Thank you for having me.
