Proxy and Firewall Settings @ [7/24/2001 2:34:00 PM] by:

To use the Active Worlds software from behind a firewall/proxy server, you will need to alter the configuration of the firewall/proxy server in order to allow the use of the ports needed by the Active Worlds software.
Connecting to the universe server requires an inbound and outbound TCP connection to auth.activeworlds.com on port 5670. Both the browser and the world servers connect to the universe server on this port.
Connecting to AlphaWorld requires an inbound and outbound TCP connection to auth.activeworlds.com on port 7777. Other Activeworlds Corp. worlds require TCP connections on ports in the 7000 -> 7100 range to auth.active worlds.com. Non-Activeworlds Corp. worlds are usually, but not always, on port 7777 at other sites.
Web access to port 80 at a variety of sites is required for object download, although this can be changed via the browser's proxy configuration. If the browser doesn't open and allow you to change it via the "settings" tab, you will need to set it up manually.
To manually set up the proxy settings, open the aworld.ini file and add the following proxy ini settings: [proxy] address=www.myproxy.com (or whatever) port=8080 (or whatever)
