Active Worlds Version 2.2 Coming Soon!

The citizens on our beta program have been working hard over the last couple of weeks testing out the beta version of our latest new version of the Active Worlds software. Interest in our beta program has been almost overwhelming but so far we have managed to keep up with all of the applications. :)

The good news is that the number of bug reports has been very light, and the few bugs that have been found so far have already been fixed. This means we anticipate a release of this exciting new version to everyone within just a few days. Some of the new features in version 2.2 include:

  • Native support for trueSpace COB objects
  • A new "color" action command (use it to change the color of objects)
  • New bot features designed to increase game possibilities

AWCOM'S Family Tree

Many of the names in the AWCOM family are familiar to you - E N Z O, Cryonics, Roland, Lucrezia Borgia, Young Shamus, and Calpantera. Well now we have a few new additions to the family that we'd like you to meet! Earlier this year we were joined by Flagg and chickiefluff! They are still getting their feet wet in AW, learning all the customs and getting to know the natives, so if you see them wandering around give them a wave and an old-fashioned AW welcome. We're sure you're gonna like them as much as we do!

We've also been lucky enough to officially welcome one of AW's legendary citizens, Hamfon, into the fold, and we're thrilled to have him in the gene pool! Now we've just gotta get him to learn to share his BBQ potato chips with the rest of us :)

Active Worlds Powers E-Learning For IT Professionals At Earth Web's E-Learning Expo

On June 28th the Active Worlds technology was host to the Earth Web E-Learning Expo, industry's first online training event, utilizing technology that has enabled a global audience of IT professionals to access the highest quality training from the leader in CORBA education and emerging technology, DiaLogos.

The day's program encompassed realtime presentations by leading technologists in distributed computing and product information from top vendors. DiaLogos Incorporated created an informative Technical Resource Library that included in-depth content on a variety of distributed systems topics. In addition they debuted their popular course "Distributed Java Programming for CORBA®" in an innovative on-line learning format with ‘live’ support from their outstanding Education Engineers.

AW Support's Tech Tip Of The Month

MIDI's giving you the blues?

Often find that playing midis in AW causes them to skip or the AW browser to crash?

Well, some of the newer sound cards have problems with the 3D sounds in AW. Cards known to exhibit problems with AW include Turtle Beach and Riptide cards. (The Riptide card comes in a lot of the new Hewlett Packard Pavilion models PCs). To resolve this issue we recommend lowering your wavetable setting or disabling 3D sound in the sound card options found in the Windows control panel.

News From The Active Worlds Community

Active Worlds Community Festival '99 - We Made It!

Courtesy of AWEC

June 26th-27th the entire AW Community co-arranged the very first AW Community Festival. From the Festival Opening in the Festival Park (AWCC) June 26th at noon VRT, there were 32 hours packed with events, contests and fun for all. The official festival programme offered 21 events, but there were also several games to solve in the Festival Park - a pretty busy weekend for those who wanted to attend them all:) The park was served by Festival Guides, giving assistance concerning the events, the flag voting, and the park's many facilities.

5 prizes, among them 3 worlds, were up for those collecting the most festival points, and 54 persons earned points! Many more participated, but we all know the old lesson: all contestants can't win. This year's winners were Dreme Lojyk (1st), Mindman, Coryashire, FangsFirst, and Lara. Congrats!:)

The Festival Opening and Gala events included some of AW's celebrities as guest speakers - E N Z O, Shamus Young, Lucrezia Borgia and Chloe, not to forget Simon Says who was able to make people laugh after 32 hours with events:)

One of the main contests was the AlphaWorld Flag Design Contest; 12 entries were on display in AWCC, and AWEC received nearly 100 votes! Unfortunately, due to technical problems all votes didn't reach us in time for the Festival Gala, so the winner has not been announced yet. This will take place at the new AlphaWorld Flag Museum in AlphaWorld (AW 3200N 4500W), July 3rd at 10pm VRT.

Most of the festival locations can still be visited, and even some of the hunts can still be solved in case you missed them. Festival reports and pictures can be found on the festival website.

It takes place on Saturday July 3 at 7:00 P.M. VRT at AW 2008.5S 898W with a "rain date" on the following day at the same time. If you get lost the directions will be up at The Mule Dog Records home page http://www.muledog.com Come out to meet Thomas Leary singer/songwriter of "Bluegrass Baby" and help celebrate this milestone with Mule Dog Records (look for the one named muleydog). Thanks.

RADIO AW?!?

Are you a music enthusiast? An aspiring DJ? A musician? Ever wanted to have your own radio show? Well if you are, come join us on July 31st at 7:00PM VRT in AWCC to talk about your ideas for a community run radio station in AW. We're still doing research and testing out some software and ideas, and we'd love to hear yours!

Reunion! Reunion! Reunion!

Last year more than 50 people met in real life in Las Vegas, and hundreds more joined in the fun in Active Worlds. This summer, there will be 4 Reunions held worldwide over the July 22-25 weekend.

There are groups meeting in Myrtle Beach, Ottawa, and Brussels as well as events planned in Active Worlds for those who can't make it to a real world event.

Please note: The Melbourne Reunion has unfortunately been cancelled due to low attendance numbers.

We hope to see you at a Reunion!

A Huge Thank You From The PKs!

During the Active Worlds Community Festival the Peacekeeper's opened their home, AW911, to the public for a "world warming party", and were really pleased to see so many citizens come visit and hang out! They extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who stopped by!
