Getting to Know Our Citizens!

This month Kiwi chats with citizen Cablecar Gal.

Kiwi interviews Cablecar GalHello CCG. Thank you for agreeing to this interview

Kiwi: Where are you from?

CCG: I am from Marin County California North of San Francisco about 45 minutes.

Kiwi: You have been in Active Worlds for a very long time. How long exactly?

CCG: I first came to Active Worlds in 1998. I was formerly A Bulletin Board Operator and was introduced to Active Worlds at A Sysop reunion in Columbus Ohio in 1998.

Kiwi: You must have seen a lot of changes. What major change stands out the most to you?

CCG: I can remember the pink and the blue Intel jump suits that the tourists wore around the AWGate, and all we wanted to do was have a bowling alley in the AWGate and roll balls at one another, and pick the flowers and on the building side of things, just be able to rotate a object on the axis. We dreamed of just doing the simple things that we often take for granted now like rotating things.

What stands out for me is the improved graphics the sky boxes, and movement of things movers the sit command apply a sequence all things that we had dreamed of happening and are now. Active Worlds still remains one of the best 3D graphic programs out there.

Kiwi: I know you have a World in AW. Can you tell us a little about it?

CCG: My world is Sfgate, a P-50.

The name of the world was given to me by a good friend, a man that introduced me to Active Worlds back in 1998, Jakknife. A citizen that was a mentor, a hero, and a remarkable man in his own right. He had no use of his arms and no legs and he was in a wheel chair 24/7. He gave me daily tours around Active Worlds. He told me that he could do things in Active Worlds that he could not do in real life, like; swim, run, walk, and chase and hug me. And he taught me how to build while using a rod in his mouth [to control the computer].

He said to me often "some day you will be a world owner." My answer was NO way! He kept showing me worlds that were under construction and buildings and plots of land that he had marked out. But he kept up his daily reminder some day you will be a world owner and oh btw a Gatekeeper. My response daily was the same as the last time, no way! Jakknife got to see me Gatekeep in 2004 before he passed away, and got to see the world as she was back then. I quickly add that the world would not be the world that it is now without the loving hands of many that made her what she is today.

I won my world at GK Bingo in 1999 and I could not wait to tell Jakknife fast enough. His response was “I told you so.” My world is a city within a city. Nursemom and Woody and Old Kunnel and Jakknife and Le Forgergon were the first builders in Sfgate. I taught Old Kunnel how to build in there and brought him into Active Worlds along with Le Forgergon. The world is dedicated in loving Memory to Xyzzz, Jakknife, and Le Forgergon.

Kiwi: Have you any advice for anyone just starting out with a new world?

CCG: Start with a vision on paper - a theme and your own style and then let it flow. Build with heart and love and patience. Password protect all your objects, do not give ED rights to any one. And enjoy Freebie object world.

Kiwi: What do you have on your wish list that you would like to see added to Active Worlds?

CCG: A default logo on a picture sign, if the link goes down, the browser would default back to a Active Worlds logo. We won’t see snow on pict objects any more. We would see a Active Worlds logo instead.

A complete overhaul of the objects in AlphaWorld. New textures, new objects, new sequences. Those that are there now are so old and outdated and need to be completely overhauled. We have some truly remarkable talent here in Active Worlds - true artists. Pelican, Starheart, keshi, Elysium, MaxPoly, dreamer2, tunablues. Let's use them to create objects and textures for AlphaWorld that will make Active Worlds shine and the world take notice.

Kiwi: When you're not building where do you like to hang out?

CCG: AWTrains, Pelican and Starheart worlds, Woodville with NurseMom, America world, AWTours world. And the AWGate when I am Gatekeeping.

Kiwi: One of the things I love is how you can be creative in AW, even if in real life you may not be as creative. What do you love about AW?

CCG: I love helping people that first come into this amazing piece of software, and sharing with them all I know. And seeing them type back "Thank You" that makes me smile. Seeing them fly and run and change their avatar and create a new one, and say "Hey I went to see that Titanic that AW Guide took me to I went back there I can teleport."

And [knowing] you are a small part of why they were able to do those things. Someone took the time out to show me those things, so it is full circle; I am giving back to Jakknife in his memory what he gave to me when he was alive to see it happen. And I am giving back to men like Xyzzz who stood by me through the hardest of times and the best of times. Xyzzz said to me so many times, "follow your heart let no one take it away."

Kiwi: Describe yourself.

CCG: Fun loving, passionate, good hearted.

I am so passionate and dedicated that I am hosting an Active Worlds Reunion in Pensacola, Florida from July 29 to August 2. We will be visiting the Cradle of Aviation, The Naval Aviation Museum, a working light house, and going on a dolphin experience to Destin, Florida, and rounding up our weekend in Page, Florida with a dinner and show.

Kiwi: Sounds like it will be an amazing time. You work hard to arrange all this for everyone I know.

Thank you so much for your time CCG. Have a great day.
