One of the many wonderful things you can do in Active Worlds is sightsee and explore the Universe. It seems never ending! You just never know what you may find and learn about how people are using the Active Worlds program along the way. For years I've had the pleasure of exploring tons and tons of creative builds by the community within the AW universe, and thought I'd share snippets of some of my ventures.
America World
Last week, I had seen and heard of the awesome build creations in the world called America, founded by Jetta Lewis. So I jumped into my traveling teleport to see for myself. Upon entering the world, I was greeted by a most spectacular replica of the statue of liberty, pleasing pond, and a building filled with more teleports to a large array of community builds.
Closing my eyes, I picked one and was whisked to a place called Jahara. Elegantly made with a feel taking me back to the times of Lawrence of Arabia. Seeing no one was around, I climbed the spiral stairs to playfully slide down them. swooooosh! A peacock laughs with me, as I rush over to the inviting pool and jump in for a dip. Reeefrrreshing! I stepped outside to let the warm sun dry me off, before I decided to return to the GZ to find another adventure.
Jurassic Encounters
Humm, a lovely picture that appears to be a park! Ah, the name says "Jurassic Park". Intriguing indeed. Whisked off once again I found a loving little forest, and step in to see what I could find. As I read the sign that says "Built by Ciena, Noofy, and Prince Jasper", I hear the sound of twigs breaking and soon realize this is no ordinary park! A dinosaur runs by as if to be chasing something! I turn and one more roars, and another, and another. Quickly running to hide behind some foliage, I hoped they hadn't seen me and thought what a tasty morsel I'd be! I'd love to stay awhile but unsure of my safety, I look for a way out. Travel Teleporter take me away!
Resting to catch my breath, I thought well, third time's an additional charm. So I closed my eyes and randomly chose yet another place. I landed in the middle of traffic! Yikes! I spotted a safe place and ran to catch my breath and found myself in a quaint little park in the middle of a city. A sign plaque reveals that the city I landed in is called Neophyx founded October 27, 2003 by NYX. If you enjoy the feel of the city, it's a definite place to visit.
Virtual Sculptures
One more world to visit before finding a little place to relax and eat my burger meal I picked up from across the street. I was sent a special message to check out a wonderful world called DAAP, noted as being the first Virtual Sculpture World online! Check out the website link made by Derrick Woodham that tells some of this world's story. The world has been a part of the AW evolution since 1996. I ended up spending a long time enjoying the wonderful sculptures displayed by faculty, students, and guest artists at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, University of Cincinnati. Breathtaking work! There is also one model that many may recognize, that is still used today in many builds around the universe. Can you find which one that is?
Well, I need to find a place to kick back and eat. Been an enjoyable journey today. I think I'll go park myself in the soothing ambiance in the world Anataise. Roving Explorer signing off until the next AW explorations!
