Possible Solutions:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and your sound card.
  • Also make sure you are running at a 16bit color depth and have the latest version of DirectX installed.
  • Try lowering the wave table size for your soundcard in the Multimedia applet in the Windows control panel or in the device manager under your sound card if applicable.
  • Also some users have reported removing the Real Audio shortcut from the startup group can also resolve this problem.

If you still are having problems:

  1. Right click the "My Computer" icon on the Windows desktop, in the pop-up menu left click property. A window will open, click the "Device Manager tab. Look for "Display Adapters" and expand it by clicking the "+" sign in the box.
  2. Note the make and model of the video card.
  3. Then double click the expanded selection. This is the video card properties.
  4. Click on the drivers tab and look for a button that says "Driver file details".
  5. Note the version and/or date and close the window.
  6. Then while still in device manager look for the "Sound,Video and game controllers" icon and expand it by clicking the "+" sign in the little box next to it. This will show you a list of items, one of them being your sound card.
  7. Note the name of your soundcard and then double click it and look for the drivers tab.
  8. Click on "Driver file details" and note the date and version number of the files.
  9. Send the make and models as well as the date and/or version of the video and sound drivers to support@activeworlds.com with the subject "Support Tip #37".
